Effects of Global Warming
There are lots of effects that Global Warming will have on planet Earth. The most obvious and potentially the most problematic effect is rising sea levels. The sea levels will rise because the polar ice caps are melting. The polar ice caps are melting because of the rise in temperature which causes the ice to melt. The average global sea levels have risen by about 195 mm from 1870 to 2004. The US National Research Council predict that the average global sea level will rise by another 56-200 cm by the end of the 21st century. This means that lots of costal and low lying land will go underwater. There will also be more flooding along river banks.
Another devastating effect of Global Warming is mass extinction. A study done by "Nature" shows that of 1103 endangered species of plants and animals, 15-37% of these species will become "committed to extinction" by 2050. This will result in the natural habitats of all of these species disappearing. The species will then not have high enough numbers to stay at a sustainable level. This means that shortly after 2050 these species of endangered plant and animals will become extinct.
